WINTER SCHOOL - ANALYTICAL METHODS IN QUANTUM AND CONTINUUM MECHANICS

primo piano (aule 134-135-136) del Padiglione Piemonte dell’International Train Center dell’International Labour Organization ITC-ILO (Viale Maestri del Lavoro, 10 - 10127 Torino).

The role of analytical methods in applied mathematics is nowadays fundamental in the modeling of real life phenomena. The breadth of different fields raising new challenging issues has pushed the theory in several different directions, from Quantum Mechanics to Biology, Economics and Engineering, rooting for a strong interdisciplinarity. Therefore, the major goal of the Winter School Analytical Methods in Quantum and Continuum Mechanics is to gather recognized experts in mathematical analysis with a diverse background, alongside with young mathematicians working on the field. In particular, we aim at attracting people working on analysis of PDEs, Calculus of Variations and Functional Analysis, whose research focuses both on theoretical problems and on real world applications. In particular, the School purposes to provide an opportunity for different communities to meet up, fostering the interactions, allowing exchanges of ideas and methods and contributing to the diffusion of open problems. On the other hand, mini-courses and talks of the School aim at introducing research topics currently of interest in an accessible way to a wide audience, in such a way to enable also nonexpert, interested researchers to approach the questions of major interest.

The school aims at gathering people working on analysis of PDEs, Calculus of Variations and Functional Analysis, focusing both on theoretical problems and on real world applications. There will be three mini-courses and four main talks, alongside with a limited number of contributed talks.
The lecturers of the mini-courses are:
· Marco Cicalese (Technische Universität München)
· Andrea Malchiodi (SNS Pisa)
· Nicola Visciglia (Università di Pisa)
The speakers of the main talks are:
· Anne-Sophie de Suzzoni (È́cole Polytechnique)
· Flaviana Iurlano (Sorbonne Université)
· Aleks Jevnikar (Università degli Studi di Udine)
· Giuseppe Savaré (Università Bocconi)
